Biography

Ashley Lewis is a pianist and piano teacher originally from Chelsea, Alabama, now based in Morgantown, West Virginia. She holds a Bachelors of Music from the University of Alabama, a Masters of Music from Bowling Green State University, and is currently a doctoral student at West Virginia University pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance under the guidance of Dr. Peter Amstutz. She works as a Graduate Assistant at WVU where she teachers Music Theory and Aural Skills. She also currently serves as the Music Director at Spruce Street United Methodist Church in downtown Morgantown. Her recent achievements include placing 3rd—together with soprano Maureen Berney—in the BGSU Conrad Art Song Competition (2022), performing in the Piano Plus Festival in Xanthi, Greece (2022), and serving as the vice president of BGSU’s chapter of the Music Teachers National Association (2022-2023). Ashley has a deep passion for piano teaching. She has nearly a decade of teaching experience working with students of all ages and ability levels, and her students have participated in numerous festivals, competitions, and recitals. She is dedicated to creating an inclusive classroom and studio space, and, to that end, her doctoral research focuses on intersections of disability, music, and learning.
